Based out of New York, Jessica is an aspiring addition to the commercial art market from a management and sales role. Starting her studies with a traditional classical art historical background in Rome, Italy, she has made numerous intentional decisions to shape her experience to be one of broad styles and backgrounds. This has led her to develop an international perspective, having lived and studied in New Orleans and London before settling in New York. Jessica was brought to New York after she decided to finish her studies at Pratt Institute, a traditional art and design school, where she would surround herself with artists rather than historians. Though in a BA program, these studies allowed Jessica to experiment in the studio, creating a physical form of research for her future in analysis and critique. She says her “creative production is never primary,” and that when aspiring to a career in the art world, “it feels hypocritical never to have practiced [art].” Jessica's practice is material-forward, with an emphasis on mastery of technique rather than the actual creative form. Much of her work is smaller in size and draws upon her global experiences and memory. Not her primary subject of study, she works through her limited teaching and rather falls back on bold shapes and basic sketching, which was learned through her architect mother. With a well-rounded background in various artistic mediums and techniques, Jessica has not only created a physical portfolio in art school, but a listing of experiences in skills that will one day advise her future relationship to art.
